Fractional strategic support to the management teams of fast-growing clean technology start-ups and internal corporate climate teams. Services include:

  • Assessment of carbon monetization opportunities (carbon offsets, emissions regulations, clean fuel standards, investment credits)
  • Market research, strategic analysis, and due diligence of clean energy and clean fuel projects
  • Net zero emission strategy development, including marginal abatement cost curve modelling
  • GHG emissions and life cycle emission quantification and reporting
  • Government grant application support
  • Financial modelling and financial evaluation of clean energy projects
  • Techno-economic analysis of new technologies or business models
  • General business strategy development or market development or opportunity analysis of clean technology projects

Net Zero Emissions Planning Across Sectors

Supporting companies in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate applications across industrial sectors including oil and gas, chemicals, pulp and paper, manufacturing, food and beverage, and cement.

Decoding Environmental Policies & Regulations

Reducing compliance costs for large emitters while maximizing value from emission reduction projects (carbon offsets, cap and trade, low carbon fuel standards, GHG and climate risk reporting)

Low Carbon Solution Evaluation

Evaluating broad range of decarbonization solutions including waste heat recovery, renewable power, hydrogen, biomass energy, zero emission vehicles, and carbon utilization

Ahsan is a carbon and energy decarbonization specialist with more than 8 years of experience across a broad range of climate-related issues including renewable energy (hydrogen, waste-to-energy, biofuels, biogas, CCUS), carbon offsets, emissions reporting including life cycle analysis (LCA), ESG disclosure, climate finance, and corporate net zero strategies. Leveraging his technical and commercial acumen, and knowledge of environmental regulations, Ahsan brings a holistic perspective to climate projects.

Ahsan spent the first half of his career advising clients across the public and private sectors on their emissions strategies as a consultant at Radicle-BMO, ERM, SYSTEMIQ and BCG, and the later half developing large-scale decarbonization projects with Protium, StormFisher, Hydra and Valent.  He was most recently with ATCO’s Clean Energies Team as a Senior Strategy Advisor, where he led a number of techno-economic studies on the export markets for renewable ammonia, hydrogen's role as a transport fuel, and pathways to reduce the carbon intensity of large-scale hydrogen production.

Prior to that, Ahsan provided fractional commercial and strategy support to various clean technology startups and renewable fuel project developers between Canada, US, UK and Sweden, helping with financial modelling, grant writing, business development, and carbon monetization. Ahsan is currently focused on originating and developing low carbon cement projects with Carbon Upcycling.

Ahsan has a BA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, a BSc Environmental Science from Western University and a MSc from the London School of Economics where he was a Chevening Scholar.

Previous Projects and Clients

TEA study to evaluate metahne pyrolysis as a decarbonization pathway compared to other H2 production pathways, which included modelling production costs across different scales, detailed literature review of pyrolysis technologies, and interviews with technology providers and ecosystem stakeholders.

Project lead responsible for bringing together the consortium of partners, developing commercial and financial models, sourcing and applying for £30M government grant to derisk the project

Contract consultant with SYSTEMIQ - global sustainability strategy consultancy - contributed to major publication, by modelling the baseline scenario of plastic leakage into the ocean + authored the policy section (page 106-109)
